Concrete Test
Destructive testing :
This involves the testing/crushing of samples brought from site especially concrete samples meant for construction on all Building and Civil Engineering projects. These samples can be in form of concrete mix, paving stones, sand Crete blocks, kerbs, pre-cast slabs/beams etc. and are tested to determine their compliance with engineering standard and specifications. Below is a testing procedure conducted on a project that is under construction..
Semi-Destructive Testing : This test is usually carried out on concrete or asphalt samples where standards or specifications are not been adhered to during construction. It can also be done on structures or members which the engineer believes that there is likelihood of failure.

Non-Destructive Test ( NDT )
This modern method of test is used to determine the structural stability and integrity of Building and Civil Engineering structures. It is a convenient way, since it will not impair any structure or sample brought under test. Additional details of used reinforcement bar sizes, spacing, corrosion level can be obtained by this test.This test is conducted on existing structures and on deep foundations (piles).

Sub-soil Investigation
This involves the conduct of the necessary test on the soil before embarking on any project development/execution. It is done to determine the type, nature and characteristics of the sub-soil/surface materials as well as the general stratigraphic sequence of the sub-soil within the area and obtain its relevant engineering parameters that will be needed to make informed and quality decision in Building and Civil Engineering works; such as in foundation and road design and its subsequent execution.

Geotechnics
As a Quality Control and Assurance Laboratory, further tests are carried out on all necessary Building and Civil Engineering materials to include cement test, sand aggregate & rock test, Asphalt test, soil bearing test, soil stabilization test, soil classification & compaction, etc, to ascertain there engineering properties before usage for construction purposes. Our staff have a range of research interests within Geotechnics including: seismology, tunnelling, quaternary geology, partially saturated soils, foundations, and the geotechnical impacts of climate change.

Steel Test
On a steel or metallic samples, tests are conducted upon them to ensure they meet up to required standard. Some result parameters are obtained and used in the consideration (such as tensile strength, Yield Strength, elongation, Modulus of Elasticity, etc.).
There are two approaches in analysing the tensile strength of steel samples and both approaches are available at the laboratory. The destructive and non-destructive methods. The approach used is based on the technological criteria appropriate for each method. The destructive approach analyses the reinforcement sample in such a way that the testing is only complete and conclusive when the sample ruptures or fractures while The scientific principle of the equipment used at the laboratory to conduct the non-destructive test is based on Electromagnetic (EM) Induction. After the testing is complete, the steel sample is still intact.

Chemical Analysis
It is important to note that, there are some materials if mixed with impure water or other non-ideal chemicals would affect the quality of the finished product. Also, It is a known fact that the presence of salt in water can lead to gradual disintegration of the structure by making it weak, when it dissolves in dried concrete upon contact with water. Thus softening the concrete; resulting in powdery flaking of the concrete hence the need for its analysis

Other solid materials, such as Grating, Ceramics, Aluminium, Paints etc. also undergo chemical analysis in the laboratory to determine their suitability especially in the area where they are to be used.
